Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Democrats are exploiting the Maine shooting to attack Trump-era ICE vetting, pretending the real scandal is a badge on an American rather than the foreign national who forced the encounter. Their sudden interest in officer qualifications ignores years of Democrat policies that flooded the border with unvetted entrants while defunding enforcement. The officer acted under federal authority against a subject whose presence itself violated law; relatives' complaints about his past change nothing about the criminal's choices or the legal duty to remove him. This is the same party that blocked basic E-Verify, sued states for cooperating with ICE, and labeled routine deportations as "cruel." Their selective outrage reveals the pattern: every enforcement action becomes evidence of systemic failure, never the underlying refusal to secure the border. Facts remain that ICE officers operate under stricter rules of engagement than most urban police, yet Democrats grant cartel runners and repeat crossers endless benefit of the doubt.

Jeffries' press release will not mention how many times his caucus voted to weaken immigration statutes or how sanctuary policies directly endanger agents and citizens.
